The Central Bureau of Health Intelligence has been publishing an annual National Health Profile of India since 2005. According to Jagdish Prasad, Director General of Medical Services, this publication draws upon "prolonged, systematic and genuine efforts to collect an enormous amount of national data from the directorates of Health and Family Welfare in all 36 States/Union Territories" and other organisations, both national and international.
