Report on Medical Certification of Cause of Death 2015

In the year 2015, over one-thirds of deaths in India were caused by heart diseases, including diseases of pulmonary circulation and other forms of heart diseases, and Ischemic Heart Disease. Septicemia and Tuberculosis claimed 11 per cent of the total registered deaths in the same period, according to the annual Report on Medical Certification of Cause of Death released by the Office of the Registrar General of Vital Statistics Division of the Union Home Ministry. The Report, the 42nd in the series since its inception under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, collated statistics on causes of death obtained through the Civil Registration System from 33 states and Union Territories. This data is released to help administrators, policy planners, researchers and professionals with evidence-based decision making with regard to resource allocation, monitoring of indicators, identifying priorities for programmes and other related activities.
