Amenities for MPs

"After election to Parliament, the members become entitled to certain amenities. These amenities are provided to members with a view to enable them to function effectively as Members of Parliament."

Did you know that the salary of a Member of Parliament (MP) is similar to that of a middle-level executive?

Besides receiving a fixed salary of Rs. 50,000 per month, he/she gets perks that stretch his virtual salary to Rs. 1,40,000 per month.

Besides the monthly salary, the MP gets a daily allowance of Rs. 2,000 for participating in sessions of parliament, a constituency allowance of Rs. 40,000 per month, and an office expense allowance of Rs. 45,000 per month.

There are travel allowances, in which the MP, for the purpose of attending a Parliamentary Session, or meeting of a Parliamentary Committee or for anything connected to his duty, is given considerable cushion to cover the travel expenditure of him and his family.

There are telephone, broadband, medical and pensionary benefits (to retired members) that an MP gets as well.
