With the objective of gearing up for the roll out of COVID19 vaccine across the country, the Central Government has asked all States and UTs to ensure effective preparedness for the vaccine roll out. Bharat Biotech’s Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Krishna Ella and Joint Managing Director Mrs. Suchitra Ella called on the Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu today in Hyderabad. The discussion revolved around the status of the indigenous vaccine and the plans to make it available in India and rest of the world. 1119. Standard Operating Procedure for Epidemiological Surveillance and Response in the context of new variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus detected in United Kingdom - Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

Introduction: A new variant of SARS- CoV 2 virus [Variant Under Investigation (VUI)-20212/01] has been reported by the Government of United Kingdom (UK) to World Health Organization (WHO). This variant is estimated by European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) to be more transmissible and affecting younger population. This variant is defined by a set of 17 changes or mutations. One of the most significant is an N501Y mutation in the spike protein that the virus uses to bind to the human ACE2 receptor. India’s trajectory of active cases continues to follow a steadily dipping path. The total Active Caseload has dropped to  3.05 lakh (3,05,344)  today. This has been made possible by the trend of recoveries exceeding new cases and low number of fatalities per day which have ensured a total net reduction of the Active Caseload. India’s present active caseload consists of just  3.04%  of India’s Total Positive Cases. India’s total Active Caseload has significantly dropped to  3.63 lakh   (3,63,749 ) today. This is the  lowest after 146 days.  The total active cases were  3,58,692 on 18 July, 2020. The country has reported a trend of sustained decrease in the number of active cases. India’s present active caseload consists of just  3.71%  of India’s Total Positive Cases. 37,528  cases recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours. This has been made possible by the trend of recoveries exceeding new cases which has ensured a total net reduction of the Active Caseload.
