File photo: Vijay Soneji</b></br> At the inaugural meeting of the Indian Board of Wild Life in 1952, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, the first Chairman of Board, had bemoaned that the lion had become endangered, wanted the Government of India to declare it to be in need of special protection, and called for the rehabilitation of the lion in its old haunts.
