S. Rajendran, Senior Fellow

S.Rajendran was until recently Resident Editor/Associate Editor with The Hindu in Karnataka, based in Bengaluru.

In a journalistic career of over 35 years all through with The Hindu and in Karnataka, he has extensively covered various facets of life in the State. He has covered the State Legislature for nearly 30 years and has also assisted in bringing forth amendments to the Rules of Procedure of the Karnataka Legislature.

He has covered a string of important assignments and has been active in political coverage for nearly two decades, including the formation of the first of the coalition Governments in Karnataka in 2004, the splits and mergers in the Congress, the Janata Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party apart from the field coverage of eight general elections and an equal number of elections to the State Legislative Assembly. Prior to this he covered the crime scenario in the State, which included the hunt for the assassins of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, and the tragic crash of an A320 aircraft in 1990.

In his career with The Hindu, he has served in several capacities — Staff Reporter, Senior Reporter, Principal Correspondent, Special Correspondent, Chief Political Correspondent, Chief of Bureau and Resident Editor. He holds a master’s degree from the Bangalore University. The Government of Karnataka, in recognition of his services presented him the Rajyotsava Award – the highest honour in the State – in 2010.
