This is a position for researchers familiar with the ongoing work in the areas of India’s politics and public policy, in particular issues relating to political institutions, processes and specific aspects of the working of India’s parliamentary democracy. It is also open to researchers in the areas of constitutional and political philosophy and concepts that can help illuminate some of the challenges facing Indian democracy today, such as the definition of Indian nationalism, ensuring democratic rights, addressing diversity, pluralism and regional aspirations.

The Senior Associate would be affiliated to the Centre on a contractual basis for say, a period of two to three years. This position is different from that of the Annual Fellows who will be engaged for year-long studies on particular topics. The task of the Senior Research Associate will be to coordinate, monitor and assist in the research activities and programmes of the Centre, even while engaging in his/her own research. The Senior Associate would be expected to play a critical role in formulating the research topics to be taken up by the Centre and to keep an eye on the consistency of the research work undertaken by the Centre as a whole. He/She would be expected to assist the Centre in selecting Fellows and determining whether the research proposals would have salience to the Centre’s own goals.

All the research facilities of the Centre would be open to the research associate and he/she would be encouraged to complete any ongoing research work while working at the Centre.

The research associate would be required to divide his/her time equally between the research work and programmes of the Centre and his/her own research.

The selected Research Associate should preferably be a political scientist and have a PhD so that he/she will be able to effectively identify research themes of salience and current interest.

The terms of engagement would include a remuneration of Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh a month depending on the selected Associate’s experience and qualifications. The position is based in Chennai and the incumbent will be offered office space and office facilities at the Centre.
